Sintered Silicon Carbide Technical Ceramics
Silcarb manufactures High-end Sintered Silicon Carbide products from various applications such as Pump Seals etc. Sintered Silicon Carbide is produced by mixing fine and pure silicon carbide powder (particle size sub-micron) with non-oxide sintering aids. The powdered materials are then compacted using the most conventional ceramic forming process such as isostatic pressing, die pressing and injection molding. Once the material is compacted, it is then sintered in an inert atmosphere at temperatures above 2000°C. After sintering, the material can be machined to the required tolerances and shape using precise diamond-coated tools.
We buy high-quality Silicon Carbide powders form the best possible sources. We have an in-house spray dryer/ freeze drier where we prepare our powders with binders etc. All Sintered Silicon Carbide products that Silcarb manufactures are isostatically pressed. These are then dried and fired in our state-of-the-art sintering furnaces to temperatures of 2100°C.
Some of the key properties of sintered silicon carbide are high hardness (second only to diamonds), low porosity, low density (40% the density of steel), etc. The material has good wear resistance along with excellent corrosion resistance in most of the chemical environments. Due to properties like low thermal expansion and high thermal conductivity Sintered Silicon Carbide has good thermal shock resistance.
Since pumps operate in various demanding environments, Silcarb manufactures Sintered silicon carbide pump seals that offer a high-performance seal and have proven successful in various pumping applications such as paper processing, mining, refining, and chemical processing. The material provides very good corrosion and abrasion resistance along with low sliding friction against a wide range of mating materials.
